TUSCOLA & SAGINAW BAY RR CLARE DIVISION
The current Tuscola & Saginaw Bay RR Clare Division was started in 1995. The HO Scale Model Railroad is based on an article that appeared in an issue of Prototype Modeler. The article was entitled: PM Portfolio: The Tuscola & Saginaw Bay: Owosso- Clare Turn. This article discussed former trackage of the Ann Arbor Railroad that had been taken over by the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railroad. The TSBY is now a fallen flag, as it is now known as the Great Lakes Central RR.
The Tuscola & Saginaw Bay RR Clare Division occupies a 44 x 22 basement. The railroad is a point to point layout. The railroad runs from Ann Arbor (staging) to Cadillac also a staging yard. The major towns on the railroad are Owosso, Middleton, Mt. Pleasant, Clare and Cadillac. Owosso and Cadillac have the engine service facilities for The TSBY.
I use the North Coast Engineering Digital Command Control System to power the layout. The layout is not signaled following the prototype. The motive power for the railroad is all Gp-35s with a NW-2 for the yard switcher at Owosso to be added in the future. I actually run the railroad like it is a real railroad. To achieve this purpose I use a car-card system developed by Hank Tenwolde and Dan Hinel that focuses on car type not car number.
I have been open to visitors in two North Central Region of the NMRA conventions. The first being in 2003 and the second in 2006. I will also be open for the Grand Rails 2012 NMRA National Convention to be Held in Grand Rapids, MI July 29th August 4th 2012.
